How to use the LinkedIn Name Generator
- 1Describe what you are naming: a company, a product line, a newsletter or your personal brand.
- 2Pick a style. Professional and Minimal fit most LinkedIn audiences.
- 3Optional: add words to include, like your surname, your industry or your city.
- 4Click Generate names and copy the strongest ideas.
- 5Search LinkedIn for each one, then create the Page or newsletter, or set your custom URL.
Which LinkedIn names you can actually choose
LinkedIn is stricter about names than most networks. Its Help Center says the name fields on your profile can only hold the first, middle and last names of your real or preferred professional name, plus your pronouns. Pseudonyms, business names, group names, email addresses and special characters aren't allowed (LinkedIn Help), and personal profiles that represent a business instead of a person can be flagged as spam (LinkedIn Help).
So this generator doesn't invent a new profile name for you. It names everything around your profile:
- LinkedIn Pages for a company, agency, practice or school.
- Showcase Pages for a product line, business unit or initiative under an existing Page.
- Newsletters you publish on LinkedIn.
- Custom URLs for your profile and your Page, the part people type and share.
Describe what you're naming and you'll get 12 ideas in the style you pick. It's free, runs on Claude and needs no account.
LinkedIn naming rules
These come from LinkedIn's Help Center, checked in October 2026.
Custom profile URL
Your public profile URL can be customized to 3 to 100 characters. It can't contain spaces, symbols, special characters or the word "LinkedIn". You can change it up to five times in six months, and after the fifth change it's locked for another six months. LinkedIn recommends a version of your name or your professional brand (LinkedIn Help).
LinkedIn Page names
Company names have a 100-character limit (LinkedIn Help). A Page name has to match the organization it represents, can't contain false or misleading information, can't infringe on anyone's rights and can't use any variation of "LinkedIn" (LinkedIn Help). Depending on how big the change is, how many employees are linked to the Page and whether it's verified, you may need to contact LinkedIn to rename a Page instead of editing it yourself.
LinkedIn Page URLs
Page URLs follow the pattern linkedin.com/company/your-name. They can use lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens (plus Chinese, Japanese or Korean characters), must include at least one character that isn't a number, can't have two hyphens in a row, and can't start or end with a hyphen (LinkedIn Help). You can change a Page's main URL once every 30 days, and renaming a Page doesn't change its URL (LinkedIn Help).
Name ideas by what you're naming
Professional audiences reward clarity. Here's how that plays out for each kind of name, with made-up examples.
Company Pages
Use your registered business name. If it's generic, the tagline and About section can explain what you do, but the name itself should match your website and invoices. The generator is most useful before you register a business, while the name is still open.
Showcase Pages
Showcase Pages sit under a main Page, and each Page can have up to 25 of them (LinkedIn Help). Lead with the parent brand, then the line: "Ridgeway Analytics" and "Ridgeway Payroll". Followers should be able to tell at a glance that they belong together.
Newsletters
A newsletter name should promise something specific and repeatable: "The Friday Hiring Brief", "Margins and Models", "Notes from the Plant Floor". Readers subscribe to the promise, so put the topic or the cadence in the name.
Personal brand URLs
Your custom URL is the closest thing LinkedIn has to a handle. "linkedin.com/in/priyashahcfo" tells people who you are and what you do before they click, and it's easy to read out on a call.
Agencies and consultancies
Founder-named firms ("Shah Advisory") build trust quickly, and descriptive names ("Clear Ledger Bookkeeping") are easy to understand in search results. Coined names ("Tallyfold") are easier to own but need more explaining in the tagline.
What makes a good LinkedIn name
- Clarity first. On LinkedIn, people skim for what you do. A name that explains itself beats a clever one.
- Spell out short acronyms. LinkedIn's own advice for Page URLs is to avoid acronyms that could match another company, so "/the-dream-company" rather than "/tdc" (LinkedIn Help). The same goes for names.
- Match your domain. Buyers check your website and your Page. The same name in both places looks established.
- Leave "LinkedIn" out. It isn't allowed in Page names (LinkedIn Help) or in custom profile URLs (LinkedIn Help).
- Think about employee profiles. Your Page name shows in the experience section of everyone who works for you. Make it something they're happy to list.
Before you create a LinkedIn Page
LinkedIn has a few requirements that trip people up, from its Page best practices and Page troubleshooting articles:
- Your personal profile should use your real first and last name, with a confirmed email address.
- Your account needs more than one connection, and brand-new accounts have to wait at least a day.
- You may need to verify your workplace, either by work email or with Microsoft Entra Verified ID.
- Check whether a Page already exists. If it does, request admin access. If it exists as a Listing Page, you may be able to claim it.
- Have a backup URL ready. If another organization already uses your first choice, you'll need a different one to create the Page.
Keep your LinkedIn presence active
A well-named Page still needs posts. ViralFarm schedules and publishes LinkedIn posts from the same queue and calendar as TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest, Threads, Facebook, YouTube and X, with per-channel captions so your LinkedIn copy can be more formal than your Instagram copy.
ViralFarm's AI can turn an article link or a topic into text posts and slideshows. If you already write with Claude or ChatGPT, you can send posts to ViralFarm through its MCP server, and posts your own agent writes don't use ViralFarm credits. The Free plan connects 2 channels, no credit card required.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a nickname or brand name as my LinkedIn profile name?
Only if it's part of your real or preferred professional name. LinkedIn doesn't allow pseudonyms, business names or special characters in profile name fields. Create a LinkedIn Page for a brand instead.
How long can a LinkedIn Page name be?
LinkedIn sets a 100-character limit on company names. Most strong Page names are far shorter, usually just the business name as it appears on your website.
How long can a custom LinkedIn profile URL be?
Between 3 and 100 characters, with no spaces, symbols, special characters or the word LinkedIn.
How often can I change my LinkedIn URL?
You can change your personal profile URL up to five times within six months. A LinkedIn Page's main URL can be changed once every 30 days.
Does renaming a LinkedIn Page change its URL?
No. The Page URL stays the same until you edit it separately. If you rebrand, update both.
Is the LinkedIn name generator free?
Yes, with no account or credit card. There's a daily limit per visitor.
Does the generator check if a Page name or URL is taken?
No. Search LinkedIn for the name first. LinkedIn will also tell you if a Page URL is already in use when you create or edit the Page.
