How the cursive font generator works

Social apps have no cursive option, but Unicode, the standard behind all the text on your phone, includes two script alphabets as real characters: Mathematical Script and Mathematical Bold Script (Unicode chart). The generator swaps each letter you type for its script twin, and the result pastes anywhere as ordinary text.

  • Eleven thin letters come from an older block. B, E, F, H, I, L, M, R, e, g and o were encoded earlier in Letterlike Symbols, so on some phones they look a little different from their neighbors, like the โ„ฏ in ๐’ฎ๐’ถ๐“‹โ„ฏ. Bold Cursive has no such gaps.
  • Numbers stay plain. Unicode has no script digits, so โ„ณ๐“‡ & โ„ณ๐“‡๐“ˆ ๐’ฎ๐“‚๐’พ๐“‰๐’ฝ 2025 keeps its ordinary year.
  • Accented letters and emoji stay plain in every style.

Want hearts around it? The โ™ก ๐“›๐“ธ๐“ฟ๐“ฎ๐“ต๐”‚ โ™ก style under Decorated uses the same bold script.

Thin or bold cursive: which to use

  • Cursive (๐’ฅโ„ฏ๐“ˆ๐“ˆ๐’พ๐’ธ๐’ถ โ„’โ„ฏโ„ฏ) looks elegant and handwritten. It's thin, so it gets hard to read at bio size. Keep it to two or three words.
  • Bold Cursive (๐“™๐“ฎ๐“ผ๐“ผ๐“ฒ๐“ฌ๐“ช ๐“›๐“ฎ๐“ฎ) holds up much better on a phone screen. It's the safer pick for names and caption hooks, and it's the style people call the freaky font.

Cursive text ideas

Script works best where a personal, handwritten feel fits the account.

Names and signatures

A cursive name at the top of your bio, or a short sign-off at the end of a caption, reads like a signature. Keep the rest of the bio plain.

Weddings and events

๐’ฎ๐’ถ๐“‹โ„ฏ ๐“‰๐’ฝโ„ฏ ๐’น๐’ถ๐“‰โ„ฏ or ๐“‘๐“ป๐“ฒ๐“ญ๐“ฎ ๐“ฝ๐“ธ ๐“ซ๐“ฎ makes a lovely first line for an announcement. Put the date, place and link in plain text so everyone can read them.

Beauty, fashion and lifestyle brands

A cursive brand name or tagline suits salons, boutiques, florists and makeup artists. Pair it with plain contact details and opening hours.

Where cursive text works

  • Bios and display names: work. Instagram bios cap at 150 characters (Instagram Help), and styled letters can count as two each. Since search matches plain letters, keep your plain name on your profile too.
  • Usernames: won't accept cursive. Handles only allow plain letters, numbers and a few symbols (Instagram Help, X Help, TikTok Support).
  • Captions, comments, DMs and texts: work.
  • Hashtags: keep them plain, or they won't join the same hashtag page.

Readability and accessibility

Screen readers may read each script letter by its long Unicode name, such as "mathematical script capital J", or skip it (Scope), so keep essential details in plain text. Most script letters are stored as two 16-bit code units (Unicode FAQ), which some counters count as two characters. And preview on your phone: thin script that looks fine on a laptop can be hard to read on a small screen.

Schedule your posts with ViralFarm

Cursive text is ordinary text once it's copied, so it publishes exactly as you pasted it, including from a scheduler. ViralFarm lets you plan posts for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Threads, YouTube and X in one queue and calendar, then publishes them for you.

Each channel can have its own caption, so the styled version goes where it fits and a plain one goes everywhere else. ViralFarm can also turn a link, a topic or pasted text into carousel posts, on templates modeled after posts that went viral. There's a free plan, no credit card needed. See plans.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write in cursive on Instagram?

Instagram has no cursive option. Type your text in the generator above, copy the Cursive or Bold Cursive style and paste it into your bio, caption, comment or DM.

Is this real cursive handwriting?

No. These are script letters from Unicode that look handwritten and paste anywhere. For a document, pick a script typeface from your app's font menu instead.

Why do some cursive letters look different from the rest?

In the thin style, eleven letters (B, E, F, H, I, L, M, R, e, g and o) come from an older part of Unicode, so some phones draw them in a slightly different style. Bold Cursive uses one consistent set.

Why don't numbers turn cursive?

Unicode has no script digits, so numbers stay plain in both cursive styles.

Can I use cursive in my Instagram or TikTok name?

In your display name, yes. Your username won't accept it, since handles only allow plain letters, numbers and a few symbols. Keep your plain name somewhere on your profile so people can find you in search.

What is the difference between cursive and the freaky font?

The freaky font is the bold cursive style (๐“ฏ๐“ป๐“ฎ๐“ช๐“ด๐”‚). It is the same Bold Cursive you get here; the name comes from how people use it in comments and captions.

Is the cursive font generator free?

Yes. It runs in your browser, needs no account, and you can copy as much as you like.
